Gunnison Beach
Sandy Hook, New Jersey
A long-established clothing-optional area at Beach G in the Sandy Hook unit of Gateway National Recreation Area. The National Park Service acknowledges the traditional use area and posts signs for visitors.
THE LIBERATION MAP
Not every pin deserves your trust. These field stations start with official sources, clear status language, and a visible date showing when we last checked the rules.
MAP 001
We track public places relevant to clothing-optional travel, but we separate official designation from traditional or informal use. A pin can be useful without pretending local custom equals legal permission. Private resorts and clubs live in a separate Private Outposts layer so public-land status and private-property access never get blurred together.

THE RULE
Green: the responsible public agency explicitly identifies the place or section as clothing optional.
Amber: the responsible agency acknowledges established clothing-optional use, but the legal or administrative wording is more nuanced.
“Legal nude beach” is not used as a blanket label. Local rules, boundaries, age restrictions, and enforcement can differ.

Famous nude-use tradition beneath the Torrey Pines cliffs, but San Diego municipal law prohibits nudity on public beaches. Tradition and legal status are not the same.
Lake Travis, Austin, Texas
A rocky Lake Travis shoreline park described by the Travis County Parks Foundation as the only clothing-optional public park in Texas. Entry is restricted to adults 18 and older.
Columbia River Gorge, Oregon
An Oregon State Parks destination with a separated clothing-optional beach at the eastern end of the park, intentionally screened from the clothing-required area.
Six Mile Creek, Ithaca, New York
A public gorge and waterfall destination that Visit Ithaca calls a favorite sunbathing spot. Informal naturist use exists, but the area is not officially clothing optional and New York exposure law applies.
THE LIBERATION ATLAS
The map answers “where?” The regional guides answer the harder question: “what do the current rules actually say?”
The Private Outposts directory now covers visitor-ready and controlled-access naturist venues across the Northeast, with admission rules checked against venue websites.
Official rule first. Current park conditions second. Community reports third. We built the site around that order.
